Millions of Stanley travel mugs are being recalled across the country because of a burn risk, according to an announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday. Stanley has voluntarily recalled 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs after getting 91 reports about lids that don’t work properly. The problem is with the mug’s lid threads, which can shrink when they’re exposed to heat or pressure, leading the lid to fall off during use. This defect has resulted in 38 reported burn injuries worldwide, including two in the U.S., with 11 cases needing medical treatment.
These recalled mugs come in various sizes and colors like white, black, and green, and have lids made from polypropylene, a common type of plastic. They were sold online and in stores such as Walmart, Target, and Amazon from June 2016 through December 2024.
If you own one of these recalled Stanley cups, the CPSC advises you to stop using it right away and get in touch with the company for a replacement lid. Stanley is asking customers to complete a registration form on their website to receive a free replacement lid. You can identify the recalled mugs by checking their size and product identification number on the bottom of the cup.
